February 10th a team of 17 people travelled from CCLC to Guatemala to work on the construction of the school in Castulo.
The trip was an immense success, and I think I speak for everyone in saying that the experience transformed each of our lives.
Together with Faith in Action, our Guatemalan partner organization, we were able to complete the block laying for the school, and bring various forms of aid such as school supplies, food, solar lamps, and toys for the kids. We also repaired their broken corn grinder that had been out of commission for several months.
The school still needs the floor poured, and the roof raised, but due to the generous donations by all of you, we had enough funds raised to pay a team of Guatemalan construction workers to complete the final construction phases.
As I walked out of the village the final day, I was left with mixed emotions. Joyful for the task we, by God’s grace, had been able to accomplish, and the longterm impact it undoubtedly will have, but also sad to leave behind the people of Castulo. In the midst of their hardship and poverty they had shown us such generous hospitality, love and friendship.
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to each one of you who has prayed, given or gone on this trip. Only in eternity will we know the full impact this project will have on the village of Castulo and surrounding regions.
In Christ,
Andreas Steffensen, Missions Director
